Our Vicar - Jon Hale

The Church of England has always been part of my life. I came to an adult faith in my early 20's when my wife Kerry and I were living in Newcastle upon Tyne. At that time I had friends from several Christian traditions and churches, and I have always believed that membership of one particular church is of secondary importance to commitment to Jesus Christ.

In 1986 I began two years training for ordination at Salisbury and Wells Theological College. The training there was good, but I think a large part of my training had already taken place in my employment from 1979 to 1986 in County Hall in Durham, working in the Planning Department. Membership of the team responsible for planning control of opencast and underground coal mines at the time of the Miners' Strike meant that I saw that national drama's impact on local communities and individual people. This is the source of my vocation to ministry as much as a church-based calling.

All Saints', Crawley Down is my third parish post. I value the parish church and its traditional ministry to the whole community. My aim in ministry is to see the parish church healthy, confident and fruitful in faith.
